A decision-making algorithm for US-guided shoulder injections

Shoulder pain is a very common problem and one for which diagnostic imaging and imaging-guided intervention is widely used. This section describes the indications for selecting diagnostic imaging modalities depending on the clinical problem followed by an explanation as to a rationale for intervention. The supplied algorithm hopefully provides an approach that maximizes the benefit from ultrasound guided injections to subacromial bursa, acromioclavicular joint and also what to do with bursa or tendon calcium crystal deposition. It also indicates where intra-articular injections of the glenohumeral joint is indicated and why CT-guidance may be preferable to ultrasound especially if performed for a frozen shoulder.
