Information for Patients
About the scan
An Echocardiogram is a specialised Ultrasound of your heart. A specialist Cardiac Sonographer will perform imaging of your heart from various angles to gather all the information for your referring doctor and the Cardiologist reporting the study.
These examinations can provide information about the function of the heart, the motion of the chamber walls, the valves and vessels leading in and out of your heart and more.
Ultrasound makes use of high frequency sound waves to produce images of the body. There is no ionising radiation from Ultrasound.
Information we need before booking your appointment
We will require your referral from your Doctor. Our Admin team will ask you to complete some paperwork, so we have all your important details on file.

How to prepare before the scan

You will be asked to lie down on the Ultrasound bed and will have ecg leads to monitor your heartbeat attached to your chest.
During your scan you will need to remain still and will be asked to hold your breath at certain stages.
Time to complete the scan
Echocardiograms will typically take approximately 30mins to complete.
What to do after the scan
Our friendly clinical team members will direct you back to a change room and then on to the Front Reception from where you will be free to leave if you have completed all your examinations.
